HEALING
"The regular practice of contemplative prayer initiates a healing process that might be called the divine therapy. The level of deep rest accessed during the prayer periods loosen up the hard pain around the emotional weeds stored in the unconscious of which the body seems to be the warehouse. The psyche begins to evacuate spontaneously the undigested emotional materials of a lifetime, opening up new space for self-knowledge, freedom of choice, and the discovery of the divine presence within."
-- Thomas Keating in Invitation to Love
"Many native cultures believe that the heart is the bridge between Father Sky and Mother Earth. For these traditions the four-chambered heart, the source for sustaining emotional and spiritual health, is described as being full, open, clear, and strong. These traditions feel that it is important to check the condition of the four-chambered heart daily, asking: 'Am I full-hearted, open-hearted, clear-hearted, and strong-hearted?'"
-- Angeles Arrien in The Four-Fold Way: Walking the Paths of the Warrior, Teacher, Healer, and Visionary
+ The sages of the ages all teach us that healing is always a collective enterprise. I am healed as you are healed and every one else is healed.
+ The more we practice, the more we are healed. This is a wonderful thing. Bodies need to be healed. Souls need to be healed. God is always sending healing energy our way but we don't always know how to receive it, how to use it, how to share it.
This healing energy is now available like never before.
Be still and be healed.
I always come back to the essential spiritual practice of Stillness. This practice is always the miraculous key to all the other attributes and practices of heaven. When you are still you are miraculously connected, re-connected perhaps, to the source of healing and wholeness. Keep perfecting this key practice and simply enjoy the healing that takes place in this place. It is simply amazing, fantastic, wonderful as you are, as I am. Know this and be free.
Focus on the heart. Beating, beating, beating it's the rhythm of Love. "Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all." It's really not much of a demand when you think how wonderful it is. Life, Love, comes so naturally, so freely, as we open ourselves up to the Love which inhabits every cell, every atom, every space, every place, in the universe. The healing we need for any brokenness, for any dis-ease, is "here, there, and everywhere." Wow. Life, Love, beating, beating, beating. You are Love. You are Life. You are the Light of the world. Embrace it. Feel it. Be. Be glad all over.
Be grateful. Be gentle. Be gentle with yourself and all other creatures. Be healed as you become so grateful, so gentle, so humble, so holy, so heavenly. This is miraculous stuff. Thrilling really. Amazing. Fantastic. Wonderful. Just like you. Just like me. Enjoy.
The healing process is fascinating. Enjoy every moment of it. You need to be healed because part of you, part of your mind, heart, body and soul, has become separated from the source, from love, from life. But this is unnatural, not God's intention at all. When we become still and silent, wholeness returns. Be fascinated by it. Be amazed, be delighted. Be thrilled. Stillness opens the door to amazing love, amazing healing, amazing experiences moment after moment after moment, heartbeat after heartbeat, breath after breath. WOW.
You need this healing and so does all humanity which is now broken in many ways. Humanity has been given so much. You and I have been given so much. So much love. So much wisdom. But we often misuse or abuse or refuse to use the gift of love, the gift of life, the gift of knowledge, the gift of freedom.
Be still and be whole. Be still and be healed. Right now. Right here. "Take time to be holy" as the old hymn puts it. Take time to know who you are. You are Love. You are Life. You are the light of the world. This is the way it is. Really. Celebrate. Enjoy. Be glad all over.
Let's examine the relationship between discernment and healing. The essential practice of discernment makes healing possible because you figure out in discernment what needs to be fixed. Then you can free up misused energy as you send it to those places within you which need attention. So much gets bottled up until we discern what's broken and seek to fix it. The good news is that discernment and healing come naturally once the essential practices of stillness and silence have become a basic part of your life.
You will be led gracefully to acknowledge that much is broken within all of humanity and specifically in you. You will be led to make changes, eventually many changes so that you and all humanity can become whole, heavenly. Let "God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
Healing is always meant for all of humanity and all of creation. That's God's will. Discernment leads us to this realization. I can't be fixed until you and everyone else are fixed. Keep that in mind and you will receive miracle after miracle. Feel the pain of poverty and violence as if the worst of these plagues is your lot. This can be an uneasy part of the discernment process. Stay with it. Find your own particular way to ease the pain of humanity, of all creation. Slowly but surely turn the dis-ease into ease.
This is heart work. It can be hard work. We resist this realization. A big part of us is not interested in being compassionate. This big part makes us sick so try to reduce it until it becomes a smaller and smaller part. Constantly return to that stillness which makes heart work possible and healing inevitable. Good News. Wonderful news. Important news. Essential news.
This is the ONLY way to become a whole person, a heavenly person. There is no way around it. Healing is God's will but we block it until we can practice stillness, detachment, humility, silence and discernment. How is it going? Stillness will always open the door to all of these essential practices. I just can't emphasize this enough.
We all need plenty of healing. It takes courage, heart, to reach this point because healing requires compassion, the compassion that comes from detachment and humility and discernment. Fear not. All is well. Go for it. Be healed as you practice, practice, practice all of these essential practices.

Below are the lyrics to Todd Rundgren's Healing, Parts 1, 2 and 3. Todd Rundgren offered this wonderful song and meditation back in 1981. I have listened over and over again and been inspired and guided. In 2012, he offered all 3 parts on a concert tour which you can enjoy in 2 wonderful Youtube videos: Part 1 and Part 2. It featured local choirs in 5 different locales including Morristown NJ which is the county seat of Morris County where I grew up. I sure wish I had known about this tour. Here is a link to the original recording from 1981. It takes 20 minutes. If you like rock'n'roll at all, I think you will like it. Todd has done other very spiritual songs including "Compassion," "Love is the Answer" and "Love in Action."
"Healing, Part I"
Listen, listen
Listen to the voice,
The voice is an illusion
Listen to the voice,
Don't let the words confuse you
'cause you need something to concentrate on,
Concentrate on me
You need something to meditate on,
Meditate on me
Listen, listen
Listen to your heart
Tune into the rhythm
Listen to your heart
Beating with precision
Like the waves upon the seaside,
It goes on and on
Like the spinning of the world,
It goes on and on
Listen, listen
Listen for the sound
That is not in the music
Only you can hear it,
Only you can use it
It's the sound of someone breathing,
It's the breath of life
It's the sound that you are weaving
With the thread of life
Listen, listen
Listen to the sound,
Let nothing disturb you
You are in a place
Where nothing can hurt you
If you feel a strange sensation,
It can do no harm
Like the spiral of creation,
It will soon move on
"Healing, Part II"
Where you are going
You cannot take your body
You are on a journey,
The baggage is too heavy
You can leave your legs behind you,
You will learn to fly
You can leave your arms behind you,
You will touch the sky
You can leave your head behind you,
You are thought itself
You can leave the rest behind you,
You are breath itself
Now you are naked,
There's no one here to judge you
See the clear light
Shining high above you
Then you're floating in the silence,
You are not alone
For the power of your being
Keeps you flowing on
Look upon yourself
Only with compassion
Strip away the shell
Hiding your perfection
Though your past was full of darkness,
Now the past is gone
And your life is starting over
When it's just begun
Now you are whole,
Don't you recognize it
Towering eternal
Behind the troubled thoughts that hide it
Though at times it seems so distant,
It is always there
When you need it's peace and power,
You will know it's here
"Healing, Part III"
Listen, listen
Listen to the cry
Of a world that's calling to you
Listen to the cry
Of the helpless souls that need you
Though you may have trepidation
You can not refuse
You will find your own salvation
In the path you choose
Listen, listen
Listen to the voice
That whispers in the silence
Listen as the voice
Solidifies your self reliance
Let the peace that you've discovered
Be a guiding light
Let the cry that you've uncovered
Set the world alright
You could not be closer to your maker
Never more or less alone
If you know thyself
There's nothing else to know
You are whole
Listen, listen
Listen to the sound,
Let nothing disturb you
You are in a place
Where nothing can hurt you
If you feel a strange sensation,
It can do no harm
Like the spiral of creation,
It will soon move on
